2/23/25 Update

Below are some recent happenings from the chess world:

Joe Rogan interviewed Magnus Carlsen for over two hours on his podcast: Joe Rogan Experience #2275 - Magnus Carlsen
An interesting example of underpromotion to a N to win the game (rather than getting a Q like most of us would have done) where the “Chess Queen” and former Women’s World Chess Champion Alexandra Kosteniuk defeated another past champion Tan Zhongyi. Game from Round 3 of the FIDE Women’s Grand Prix 2024/2025 being played in Monaco, Round 3.
Two top F1 racers, Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton sometimes battle off the track.

After 6 rounds the USA is tied for 2nd place at the FIDE World Senior Team Chess Championship being held in the Czech Republic. Ranked #1 at the start they are trailing #2 rated England. The USA does not have a team in 65+ section.

Jaan Ehlvest representing the USA won the blitz tournament.

Did not see much published on the Women’s event other than on the USCF website. One of the players on the USA Women’s Team is WFM Natalia Tsodikova from San Francisco.
