Here is a puzzle which some describe as one of the toughest chess puzzles in the world. One version is that it took former World Champion Mikhail Tal over an hour to solve! Tal is considered one of the best tacticians ever to play chess.
In the following position from a blitz game it seems Black can resign after White just played Q from b5 to d7 with an apparently forced mate or significant gain of material. However, NM Austen Green (shown) playing Black found a beautiful save to win the game. A pattern worth remembering. Can you spot the sequence? Note the board is set-up backwards.
